Understand Your Cleaning Products
When we clean our floor or anything else for that matter, we have to understand what we are dealing with and understand the PH levels. Most surfaces, as they get dirty, will become acidic. A normal PH balance is 7.35-7.45 and anything below 7.35 will be come acidic and another above 7. 45 will become alkaline. Read more about that in our article discussing, “why can I keep my floors clean?”
So how do I understand what the dirt and grime is made up of? Well, typically you will see acidic staining in areas outside of a bathroom. Bathrooms (especially around toilets) becomes more alkaline stains requiring more acidic cleaners?
Are all cleaners safe to use? Absolutely not! Some chemicals can be harmful to yourself especially when mixing chemicals. It’s important to do your research on the products you use. When using a product use the recommended manufacturers recommendation but you can usually find the PH of the cleaning product by searching it on a simple web search.
As a rule of thumb, if you are cleaning around a toilet you use acidic cleaners and if you clean a kitchen floor you clean with alkaline products.
